FSA’s residency award program welcomes artists from a wide variety of disciplines in addition to curators, writers, and theologians who are engaged in projects relating to spirituality. Award recipients reside in our charming cottages, each with studio and living spaces, in downtown Charleston for two six-week sessions in the spring and fall. 

Known as the Holy City, Charleston is widely acclaimed as one of America’s top small cities, with a lively cultural scene, a remarkably well-preserved built environment, and a multi-layered history. We encourage those in residency to engage with the larger community, and we facilitate structured interactions with local arts, religious and educational institutions.
